My Darling,

I've been besieged at Rouen and things aren't looking up as I thought they would. The English have rode in with another chevauchée and I'm having the hardest time accustoming myself to it. They ride in on their horses and burn everything down to the ground; down to ashes and corpses. It isn't graceful, and I find it disgusting; I should not be one to speak against it, though, as I have performed such an act many a time.

I'm writing this letter with cold hands, cold skin, and a cold mind. I shiver as I attempt to keep my hands steady, as the nutrition my body craves is being kept from me. They starve us, expecting to kick our will to live out of us. I've never been so hungry, ma chère. I've never been so weak.

I won't horrify you with an explanation of the frailness of my body that quivers under the touch of the wind; the thinness of my face that replicates that of a skeleton's mask; the starvation of my soul and the abandonment by my Lord. I don't wish to scare you that way.

All that I can say is that I'm tired of this. I'm tired of being able to run my fingers in between the curves of my ribs. I'm tired of being able to cry nothing but dust.

Arthur sent two priests to us today with a limited amount of food; it was a taunt, and I know it.

He can take it and shove it down his worthless king's throat.

I shall never acknowledge him as my king,

my ruler,

the patron of my nation.

He shall never be king of Normandy, Guyenne, Paris or Orleans.

He shall never be the king of France!

With love,
Francis Bonnefoy.
FIRST OFF. I DON'T KNOW WHO HE'S WRITING TO. That's up to you to decide.

I FINISHED READING A BOOK ON THE 100 YEARS WAR! I'M SO HAPPY~. Now I know much more about the subject, YES!

In a nutshell, the war (which is actually over a 100 years in length) was over the governing of France. The English believed they had rights to the throne of France, while the French disagreed. They fought over various strips of French land and had many difficulties ranging from economic to financial to emotional. I can't go into too much detail, as there is so much to talk about! (Including Joan of Arc [Jeanne D'Arc] and the French civil war. THEN, the following English "Wars of the Roses") I LOVE THIS WAR AND IT'S HISTORY!

QUICK NOTE:
chevauchée: It is a term that is most commonly used in describing the 100 Years War. It is where the enemy rides in (usually on horseback) and sabotages their enemy's will to fight (and their finances) by burning and destroying towns and buildings.

Somehow, it's very Francis-like. Being gentle despite of his bad bad shape.
